RCSA advanced CPR for professionals
Registered Professional Rescuers
The Course is designed for anyone who is required to respond to cardiac arrest in an in-hospital or pre-hospital setting using equipment and pharmacology available to professional healthcare providers.
The ACPR for Professionals course is a locally produced course designed, focusing on the advanced management of patients in cardiac arrest and post cardiac arrest and includes the following outcomes:
- Recap on high-quality Basic Life Support
- Airway management and ventilation using adjuncts and supraglottic airway devices
- Use of a manual defibrillator
- Identification and management of the reversible causes of cardiac arrest
- Pharmacological interventions during cardiac arrest
- Management of post cardiac arrest (ROSC)
- Ethics of resuscitation
The course is suited to all levels of registered professional rescuers (Doctors, nurses (specify categories all courses), and pre-hospital personnel (meaning?) from the intermediate scope and above).
• Valid BLS Provider certificate
• Valid RCSA CPR for Professionals certificate or
• Valid AHA certificate
The course does not teach management of dysrhythmias (bradycardia and tachycardia) nor the management of Acute Coronary Syndromes or Stroke.
For successful completion of the Course, participants will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in CPR and AED use, basic airway management and ventilation, and use of the advanced cardiac arrest and post cardiac arrest algorithms; and obtain a score of at least 84% in the final written evaluation.
A 53-page ‘Advanced CPR for Professionals’ Student Manual is provided to each participant for review before, during and after the course (approximately 21 days prior to the scheduled course attendance for self-directed student learning and theory assessment preparation)
Theory assessment: obtain a score of at least 84% in the final written evaluation.
Practical assessment:
For successful completion of the course, participants will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in CPR and AED use.
SA Resuscitation Council of Southern Africa endorsed course completion certificate is issued to successful candidates.
